In the Spring of 2019, the Ukiah Symphony put on a “composers’ symposium” called “The Ink Ain’t Dry,” and called for local composers to write something, and they’d play it.
I submitted a couple of pieces I’d written some time back, but a new piece grabbed me by the beard and demanded to be written. I think it took all of two days to write and record. The performers were excellent, and delivered the mood perfectly.
A lament. Sorrow. Loss beyond the merely personal.
I almost didn’t submit it.
But when something powerful comes from the Muse, or through the Muse, or however this actually works, there’s a mutual trust involved. This piece wanted to be heard. It needed to be heard.
